Longley Old Hall  Brief history  The Hall today

Layout of the Hall   Latest news

Christine and Robin Gallagher have owned the Hall since 1998.  It is open by arrangement for private group viewings.

The minimum charge is 150, which allows up to 15 people to visit, and there is a charge of 10 for each additional visitor. In winter we limit groups to around 20, but in summer we can make use of the garden and increase the numbers.

The charge includes tea, coffee and biscuits at the end of the tour. Please telephone or write for further details.

We happy to make the hall available for other activities. For example, recently we have had a film crew for a BBC programme and two fashion shoots. Please contact us for information.

As a result of a number of societies asking, we now offer illustrated talks on the the history and renovation of the hall and the construction of the garden. The basic cost is 60, but may increase cost depending on the travelling distance. If you would like more details please telephone.

Take the A 629 Wakefield road off the Huddersfield ring road; the University is on the right and a large Sainsbury store is on the left. Keep in the right hand lane marked Almondbury and go through the first set of traffic lights. The lane filters to the right at the next set. Follow the filter on to Somerset Road (there is a Lidl shop and then a Catholic church on the left). After 100 yards take the second turning right on to Dog Kennel Bank (the sign may be obscured by ivy), signed to Lowerhouses. Note the drive way on the right to Longley School - this was the "New" hall of the Ramsdens' originally built in about 1580, but now Victorian mainly.

Climb up Dog Kennel Bank through the wood; the road name changes to Hall Cross Road. Follow this to the junction with Lowerhouses Lane. Note Longley Fisheries across the junction. Turn right and after about 20 yards turn right again down a short lane marked "Longley". The gable end of the hall is immediately in front. Follow the signs and park in front of the barn.

By bus take the 358 from Huddersfield bus station to the junction of Wood Lane, Longley Lane and Lowerhouses Lane. You will see the hall opposite the bus stop. Walk down Lowerhouses Lane turn down the lane called "Longley".
